ZENO Private Hospital Knokke

In 2007 the design, realized in Tempory Association with AAPROG and B2Ai, won the competition organised by vzw Gezondheidszorg Oostkust for a new hospital in Knokke-Heist. Inspired by the surrealist imagery of René Magritte, the building seems to float, while bathed in a natural interplay of light.

The new health care centre comprise a hospital, rehabilitation centre, care hotel, polyclinic, auditoria, public event space and heliport. The design team broke with conventional hospital architecture (functional boxes, sterile areas, etc.) and created a refreshing harmony between medical functions, personal well-being and social interaction. Inside and out, care facilities and public areas fit together seamlessly, creating an inviting environment where comfort of living is the key concern.

The opening of this example of 'living architecture' with a focus on sustainability is planned for the summer of 2017.
